Spring is the best time of year in Alanya

For this blog post we had a little chat with Yildirim Kabasakal who is responsible for all service related questions and tasks at 2Base.

We wanted to know about his best tips for restaurants, advise for property owners and a lot more.

If you have ever visited our office or send us an email, you will most likely already know who he is.

Lets hear what he has to say...

Winter, spring. summer or autumn: Which is your favorite time of year?
Definitely spring. Spring is the sign that summer is coming soon. I like this period because it is more quite and not so hot than summer.
During spring the air and sea is very clean and it is a great time to swim and play beachvolley which i enjoy a lot.

Where would you go for a Sunday brunch?
On the castle almost on the very top there is a place named Muhtarin yeri. There breakfast is the best and very traditional with fresh bread, eggs, omelette, vegetables, different kinds of cheese and of course fresh tea. Sundays are very busy but the place is great and i can recommend it. From the restaurant there is view all the way to Gazipasa.

You have been living more than 20 years in Alanya. Can you offer any insiders tip on best things to do?

A new real life Escape Game (www.kilit.in) has just opened in the city center. It is a new kind of game where you have to escape from an apartment by solving some puzzles. It was great fun.
Also i can recommend driving towards Gazipasa and BBQ on the beach... Just remember to clean after yourself and not leave any garbage behind.

Your best restaurant tip for local food?
For lunch i would recommend Adil Usta (Just opposite of 2Base office) or Mini Mutfak (Close to the big mosque in the bazaar).
Also i like Ramiz Köfteci (next to Mudo at the Atatürk statue) and the Tantuni place acroos from Tespo at the 35m road. Especially the Tantuni place is little known and very local.

Your job is to deal with all service related aspects related to properties. What is your best advise to all property owners in Alanya?
Do not forget to control your apartment when not using it. At least once a month someone should open and air your apartment, otherwise it might get damaged. Not so long ago i visited an apartment that had not been aired for a very long time, and the ceiling was full of mold.

Size of a Turkish squaremeter

This time, we will examine something that should seem quite simple: the size of a square meter. First, let's see what Wikipedia has to say on the subject: The square meter is a unit of area. It is defined as the area of a square whose sides measure exactly one meter. For those particularly interested in the subject, it is worth noting that one square meter equals 0.000001 square kilometers or 10,000 square centimeters. One question Wikipedia does not answer is the size of a Turkish square meter. Experience has taught us that one European square meter and one Turkish square meter are not equal. This is most obvious when we receive the floor plans for the units we promote. These are often quite exaggerated, and we often see 2-bedroom apartments listed as 150 square meters. However, visiting the apartment in question often reveals a different story. In other words, the 150-square-meter apartment turns out to be just 100 square meters. The main reasons for this are: - In Turkey, info...

Hottest topic of Alanya is about your guests

Recently the most discussed topics related to real estate in Alanya is without doubt the amendments to the law about short time rental of privately owned property. This has led to several other discussions that are also relevant for owners of private properties that do not rent out their property. Mainly two questions are being discussed.... - When are people that are staying in my property to be considered as commercial rentals? and - Must I register my guests with the local authorities and how is that done?   On social media platforms a fierce discussion has been going on. So far most information available has been 3rd party information such as "according to.... ", "we were told that... ", "local authorities said that... " and so on. In this blog post we will take a slightly different approach. We will take a look at the actual laws and form an opinion based on what the laws and regulations say. Before we start please note this carefully: - This inform...

Get on the bus...

At time it can be hard finding your way around the network of local busses in Alanya. Especially since each municipality has its own busses, and they all service not only their own municipality, but also other areas. So the city buses from Mahmutlar are servicing the Alanya area and the busses from Tosmur also goes to Kestel and so on... Generally speaking the busses operate from around 7 o'clock morning to around midnight. But what are there exact routes? That is not so easy to know :-) For the busses from Alanya municipality there is now a solution for this, since all the lines and routes can now be found  at this map - click to see... We havent been able to find same kind of maps from other municipalities. Lets hope that it will soon come.. In the meantime: Get and the bus and have a happy ride...
