Alanya Summer News for July

Dear readers,

Time for another update from in and around Alanya. A lot has happened since our last blog post and we are delighted to say that things are definitely moving in a more positive direction.

Most importantly Turkey has started to open borders to other countries and from Antalya Airport.

We now have flights coming in from places like Denmark, Germany, Sweden, Czech, Ukraine, Russia, Israel, Kazakhstan and Poland.

Every week a few new destinations are added so this is excellent news.

No international routes have yet opened from our local Gazipasa airport, only domestic flights are available so far.

But we are hopeful that also international flights are soon to find on the arrival board in Gazipasa Airport.

With planes in the air and open borders safety is of course critical.

So in every airport a Covid-19 test center is being operated by the Turkish Ministry of Health.

Everyone can have a test done for 15 Euro and all passengers showing signs of illness are all tested before being allowed into the country.

In case you are looking to fly to Turkey then try these airlines:

Generally speaking the Covid-19 situation in Turkey is quite good. However, there are still some hot spots mainly in the bigger cities.

Every day around 50.000 people are tested and around 1000 of these tests are positive.Totally Turkey has made more than 3,7 million tests.

So with common effort and attention of social distancing and hygiene we can beat this virus.

In Alanya and the areas around us we generally have very, very few positive cases and generally everyone is taking care and keeping social distancing.

So even Covid-19 is still the main topic of conversation for most people, it is not something that has a big impact on our day to day life.

Alanya has started to open hotels too. Mostly now there are Turkish tourists having their holidays. Hotels personnel has been trained how to work with Covid-19, how to offer food, how to clean rooms etc.

If there is cold in hour home country, I can guarantee, it is not here:).

Now we are slowly going towards 40 degree, and humidity is hovering between 70-90 percent. So we are living inside "badly heated Sauna" as our Finnish colleges are calling it.

The current  sea temperature is almost 29 degrees in Alanya. Want to come and enjoy beach life?

For detailed information on the weather and sea temperatures take a look at this page:

Here at 2Base we are of course monitoring the situation closely. After a period with working from home we are now back at at office on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays.

You are welcome to visit but we would appreciate if you could make an appointment before coming.

And with that - thank you for reading and have a great day!

Size of a Turkish squaremeter

This time, we will examine something that should seem quite simple: the size of a square meter. First, let's see what Wikipedia has to say on the subject: The square meter is a unit of area. It is defined as the area of a square whose sides measure exactly one meter. For those particularly interested in the subject, it is worth noting that one square meter equals 0.000001 square kilometers or 10,000 square centimeters. One question Wikipedia does not answer is the size of a Turkish square meter. Experience has taught us that one European square meter and one Turkish square meter are not equal. This is most obvious when we receive the floor plans for the units we promote. These are often quite exaggerated, and we often see 2-bedroom apartments listed as 150 square meters. However, visiting the apartment in question often reveals a different story. In other words, the 150-square-meter apartment turns out to be just 100 square meters. The main reasons for this are: - In Turkey, info...

Hottest topic of Alanya is about your guests

Recently the most discussed topics related to real estate in Alanya is without doubt the amendments to the law about short time rental of privately owned property. This has led to several other discussions that are also relevant for owners of private properties that do not rent out their property. Mainly two questions are being discussed.... - When are people that are staying in my property to be considered as commercial rentals? and - Must I register my guests with the local authorities and how is that done?   On social media platforms a fierce discussion has been going on. So far most information available has been 3rd party information such as "according to.... ", "we were told that... ", "local authorities said that... " and so on. In this blog post we will take a slightly different approach. We will take a look at the actual laws and form an opinion based on what the laws and regulations say. Before we start please note this carefully: - This inform...

Get on the bus...

At time it can be hard finding your way around the network of local busses in Alanya. Especially since each municipality has its own busses, and they all service not only their own municipality, but also other areas. So the city buses from Mahmutlar are servicing the Alanya area and the busses from Tosmur also goes to Kestel and so on... Generally speaking the busses operate from around 7 o'clock morning to around midnight. But what are there exact routes? That is not so easy to know :-) For the busses from Alanya municipality there is now a solution for this, since all the lines and routes can now be found  at this map - click to see... We havent been able to find same kind of maps from other municipalities. Lets hope that it will soon come.. In the meantime: Get and the bus and have a happy ride...
